How to use it
- Paste or type any text.
- Watch the live counters: characters (code points), words, lines, sentences, paragraphs.
- The reading-time estimate assumes ~200 words per minute and treats CJK characters with an equivalent weighting.
Common use cases
- Essay and article quotas — a school or CMS word limit is rarely about counting every space.
- Chinese/Japanese writing — 中文 text is not one word; the counter separates CJK characters so the total reflects the real reading load.
- Social captions — hit the exact character budget for a bio, SMS, or platform caption.
FAQ
Q: How is a "word" counted in Chinese? A: Latin words are counted normally; CJK characters are weighted (~1.6 characters per word) so mixed Chinese–English text gives a sensible single number rather than treating an entire paragraph as one word.
Q: Does "characters" include spaces? A: The character count counts code points, so spaces and punctuation are included. Line, sentence and paragraph counts give you the structural picture.
Q: What counts as a sentence?
A: Text terminated by ., !, ?, 。, !, ? or an ellipsis. A paragraph without punctuation still counts as one sentence.
