Hash Generator
Hash text or files with SHA-1, SHA-256/384/512, MD5 and CRC32 — all computed locally.
How to use it
- Type text into the box, or click Hash a file to pick a file.
- All six hashes are computed and listed instantly with the input byte size and elapsed time.
- Copy any value straight from the results.
Common use cases
- Verifying downloads — compare a SHA-256 published on a vendor site against the file you just downloaded.
- Checksumming backups — CRC32 for quick corruption checks on local copies.
- Local developer workflows — sanity-check that two configs really differ by hashing each and comparing outputs.
FAQ
Q: Is MD5 safe? A: MD5 is cryptographically broken and must not be used for security. It is included only for legacy checksums and internal consistency checks.
Q: Where is the hashing computed? A: In your browser. SHA-* runs through the WebCrypto API; MD5 and CRC32 use small local implementations. Nothing leaves the page, which is why you can safely hash sensitive files.
Q: Can I hash a huge file? A: Yes — the file is read into memory and hashed in one pass. Extremely large files (multi-GB) may strain browser memory; for those, a command-line tool is a better fit.
Your data stays on this device
Hash Generator runs 100% locally. Everything you paste or drop is processed by your own browser and never transmitted. Nothing is stored on our servers — close the tab and it is gone.
Nothing you type is sent to a server, logged, or used for analytics. The page works even with your network disconnected after first load.
