Pieces for Developers

Memory layer across your work

Visit official site

What Pieces is

Pieces is a memory layer for your work. The application runs in the background on your computer and forms a searchable timeline from the apps you already use, so you can recover decisions, resume where you left off and bring real context into AI tools.

The site states data is saved on-device by default, that capture can be paused, and that specific apps, websites and capture methods including vision, clipboard or audio can be removed.

What you can do with it

  • Search your own work history
  • Ask about what you did and when
  • Generate stand-up notes, briefs and recaps from real context
  • Feed context to an assistant through MCP

Who it is for

  • Developers and knowledge workers
  • Teams tracking decisions and context
  • People who lose time retracing their steps

What to watch out for

  • Continuous capture of screens, clipboard and audio is highly sensitive; review exactly what is captured and exclude anything private
  • On a work machine, others may be in the captured material, so consent and policy matter
  • On-device by default is a good default, but check what happens when you connect AI tools or team features
  • Deletion controls exist, yet the safest approach is to exclude sensitive apps from the start

Pros & cons
