Piano Genie

What Piano Genie is

The configured address for Piano Genie returns a gone status, so the original Google Magenta demo that mapped eight keys to a full piano through machine learning is no longer served at this URL.

It was a research demo, not a generator service. The appeal, when it lived, was that eight keys produced real piano improvisation, so anyone could play something musical immediately, which suited a playful learner or an educator.

The original audience was playful music-curious users and educators.

What you can do with it

Piano Genie was a playful web toy from Google's Magenta project: you pressed eight keys and a neural model improvised piano notes in real time, meant to make music feel effortless, but the hosted demo at this address is discontinued, so this entry cannot describe a live tool.

Rather than invent a current product, the honest position is to flag the gone status, because the link no longer resolves. For a reader, the useful move is to look for a maintained Magenta source if you want the experience.

The idea was to make a difficult instrument feel immediate.

Who it is for

It cannot be used at this address.

What to keep in mind

Pricing is not applicable: there is no live product at this address, so no plan or amount exists, and because the demo is gone you cannot use it here, so look for the Magenta project's other tools or a maintained mirror if you want the experience.

If you find a rehost, review its terms, and the underlying model was research software, so expect rough edges. A dead demo is a common fate for a research project, so the practical move is to follow the Magenta project rather than the address. If the idea of pressing a few keys and hearing real piano appeals, the open Magenta repositories are the place to look for a maintained version. The original demo made a point that still holds, because a model can lower the skill floor for an instrument without pretending to replace the player, and that idea has since spread into many of the tools in this category. Confirm a working source before relying on it.

A practical point: a gone page is the clearest possible outcome for a research demo, and the idea behind it lives on in the Magenta project, so the useful move is to follow the project rather than the dead link. Confirm a working source before relying on it.

Two practical points

find a maintained Magenta source and review its terms, because the configured page is gone, so the piano demo is no longer served here and details are unverified, and the underlying model was research software with rough edges.
