ToolsKit goes from 4 categories to 15 — and a newsroom goes live
The directory now spans fifteen categories with written reviews, and this news feed becomes its weekly pulse.
A short update from the editors, because a good directory should tell you when and why it changes.
Fifteen categories, one rule
ToolsKit started with a handful of directory categories. Today the site organises external tools into fifteen independent categories — from AI tools to design, SEO and beyond. Every category has its own top-level path, which means a URL like /ai/chatgpt or /image/tinypng will never move as the site grows. Categories that are still being filled — developer tools, privacy and security, life — stay offline until each has enough genuinely reviewed tools to be worth your click.
One rule has not changed: a category only goes live once it has at least four genuinely reviewed tools. We would rather keep a section offline than publish a page of placeholder links. If you land on a category that is not there yet, that is the rule working.
Where our own tools fit
The built-in tools — JSON formatter, base64, JWT decoder, regex tester and the rest — run entirely in your browser. They exist to be used, not just browsed, and they never upload your input anywhere. Directory reviews now link to the built-in tool that pairs with each external service, so you can move from "discover" to "do" without opening another tab.
Workflows and guides are coming next
Two more sections are in the works: workflows that bundle the exact tools for a job like writing a newsletter or shipping a design, and guides for the things you reach for every day — regex, JWT, colour contrast. They will appear as they pass the same quality bar, not before.
Why a newsroom
A directory tells you where tools live. A newsroom tells you what changed — new categories, price moves, and tools that deserve attention this week. This feed will carry one issue a week, written by humans, with the same disclosure rules as every review on the site: we say when a link is affiliate, and it never changes our verdict.
Next week: free AI tiers under real use. See you in the inbox and the tab bar.
